Brain Death

This occurs when the brainstem have seized functioning. This can be caused by various conditions like massive trauma, stroke or infection. This means that the vital organs can not function anymore and the person needs life support. There is strict criteria to certify a person brain death. Brain death is irreversible and essentially mean that the person has already died. By continuing life support in a certified brain death person is futile.
